Hello world!

When I was a kid, I used to see bottles of oil for my Dad’s van stacked in the garage.  This was, of course, in case he needed to change his oil.  And yes, he did it himself.  In the 1970s, this was a pretty common place Saturday afternoon chore for the men on my block.  The family car would be in the driveway, pan slid underneath to catch the drips & spills, and the man of the house would be in his Saturday uniform of old, ratty t-shirts and jeans to get things like this done.

Fast forward ahead to the present & it is hard to find the same thing going on in our neighborhoods on a Saturday, or any other day for that matter!  First of all, there may not be a man of the house, or anyone else willing to change the oil.  Secondly, most of us work all week & don’t relish the idea of doing a task such as changing our vehicle’s oil on our own.  And who wants to spend their day off taking their car to a Shop to have this done?  This is one of the reasons Spiteri’s Auto Service has a courtesy shuttle that can take you to work & pick you up after your car has been in the Shop during your work day.  The only thing you may need to do is communicate with a Service Writer on what they found needs to be done.  We’re open Monday-Friday from 7am to 5 pm.  You can focus on work, while we focus on your vehicle.

Changing the oil on our cars has become something best left up to the experts.  Why?  Because while they are making sure the right grade and weight of oil is being used; they are also trained to look over the engine itself and anything else under the hood while it’s open.  Who knows?  They may find that everything is great and that changing the oil is the only thing needed.  But what about the cause of the mysterious smell, or noise coming from the car, as if in protest of driving any further?  The trained mechanic might spot something minor like a loose bolt or a shredded belt.  They may advise us that our vehicle is in need of a specific kind of oil – not necessarily the lowest priced – but the best one for our car.  And there is always the dreaded report of the vehicle needing more work because we haven’t caught the minor problem in time, while we were changing the oil ourselves.  This could become one of those classic scenarios of doing something ourselves to save money, only to end up having to spend more because we only knew how to change the oil &  not check over the entire system.  Did you know that something as simple as resetting an oil change reminder can require the use of a scan tool?

So; next time the oil needs changing on your vehicle, trust the trained technicians at Spiteri’s Auto Service to do it & be rest assured that you will be aware of your entire vehicle’s health as a result.
